Delays
Just a quick update - my plane time on Monday was cancelled because they found a couple of things during the annual inspection. They sounded minor like something with the exhaust and a part for one of the mags. But then, Jim called me last night and told me they found something wrong with one of the cylinders, possibly a valve problem. So, they are trying to decide what to do, because dealing with a valve problem is a bigger service effort, and the plane is due for its next major overhaul this fall. Sounds like they will give it an overhaul, or swap in a freshly overhauled engine. Jim is not sure how long the plane will be out of service, but it could be a couple of weeks more. At this point, I am not going to be flying until I hear from Jim further about the status of the plane.

Sorry to hear about the plane - a problem with one of the cylinders - yikes! - glad they found it - hope the interruption does not put too much of a crimp in your flight training progress.
ReplyDeleteYeah, not sure exactly what the problem was - he didn't really have the specifics. The plane is on lease to the school, so the matter is really between the owner and the inspector. I'm not sure how serious the problem is, but I guess that's what annual inspections are for. Oh well, tomorrow isn't looking like a good day for flying weather-wise anyway.
ReplyDeleteIs it the only plane there? What are the chances of finding another one to get finished up? That's a major bummer.
ReplyDeleteHey Matt - Any update? I hope it's not the end of the road with the flying. Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteHey Cam - They finally got the plane back together and flying just this week. I'm busy with other things now during the summer, and I've decided I'm going to complete the other half of it next spring. I might go flying a few times between now and then to try to keep the skills from fading.

Just checking in! Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years. I'm still tuned in to your flying. Looking forward to reading some more updates soon (I hope!)
ReplyDeleteHey Cam, Thanks for checking in. Unfortunately continuing flight lessons isn't in the deck of financial priorities right now. My son has skipped two grades and he's going to be going to college in a few years, so saving for that has become a priority. Plus I've got other projects I've been working on around here that are taking my attention. It was a great experience, and it's always possible that I'll get back to it someday. Christmas was good - I hope you and your family are doing well.
ReplyDeleteSounds like some important priorities indeed. Save your logbook and keep this site open; maybe someday you can pick back up on it. Would be cool to do some cross country flying with you some day; if even 10 years from now. Hope all is well! Cam
